Northeastern Regional Branch

 

The ASA-CSSA-SSSA Northeastern Branch provides a forum for the interaction of persons interested in all aspects of agronomic, crop and soil sciences and management. The Northeastern Branch comprises the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington DC, West Virginia and the Provinces of Newfoundland/Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Quebec.

The 2010 Northeastern Branch Meeting of ASA, CSSA, and SSSA met June 27-30 at Cornell University, with a thoughtful program of speakers and activities. 
 
The program featured: 
Sunday Evening Plenary Session - "Challenges and Opportunities for Sustainable Food Production in the year 2040" with Dr. Chris Barrett.  Dr. Barrett discussed the changing demand and supply conditions for world food production and the implications for US and northeastern agriculture.  He emphasized not only commercial opportunities and challenges but also the humanitarian and environmental challenges implicit in the evolving agricultural economy.
 
Monday Plenary Session - continued from Sunday and featured:

Monday Afternoon - lunch and business meeting, student oral presentation competition, poster session, reception

Tuesday - Tours
1.  Bioenergy Tour -  bioenergy and biofuels
2.  New York Farm tour (progressive central NY farms investing in the future, involved in research and testing and implementing new technologies)

Tuesday Evening - Reception, Dinner, Awards - Myers Park, Lansing, NY

Wednesday Morning - Professional Presentations

Adjourn - 12:30, Wednesday Afternoon
