Science Policy Coalitions

The American Society of Agronomy, Crop Science Society of America, and Soil Science Society of America collaborate with various coalitions to strengthen our voices. Coalitions where the Societies are particularly active include:

  •  Coalition for National Science Funding (CNSF) - an alliance of over 120 organizations united by a concern for the future vitality of the national science, mathematics, and engineering enterprise. CNSF supports the goal of increasing the national investment in the National Science Foundation's (NSF's) research and education programs in response to the unprecedented scientific, technological, and economic opportunities facing the United States.

  •  AFRI Coalition - a coalition of scientific societies and science advocacy organizations who support full appropriation of AFRI at $700 million, but understand that the current fiscal climate may not enable this. For FY 2010, the Coalition requested that AFRI be budgeted and appropriated at $300 million. Our goal is an appropriation in FY 2015 of at least $550 million. The Coalition believes that such a funding level will show strong commitment to America’s farmers, food and rural entrepreneurs. Bringing them the tools necessary to keep the country competitive, while also protecting the natural resource base and environment, enhancing human nutrition and fostering vibrant rural communities.

  • US Geological Survey Coalition - an alliance of 69 organizations united by a commitment to the continued vitality of the unique combination of biological, geological, hydrological and mapping programs of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The USGS provides independent, high-quality data, information, research support and assessments needed by federal, state, local and tribal policymakers, resource and emergency managers, engineers and planners, researchers and educators and the public. The Coalition supports increased federal investment in USGS programs that underpin responsible natural resource stewardship, improve resilience to natural and human-induced hazards, and contribute to the long-term health, security and prosperity of the nation.

  • Coalition on Funding Agricultural Research Missions (CoFarm) - is a broadly based coalition united by a commitment to advance and sustain investment in our nation's fundamental and applied agricultural research at USDA

  • The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Education Coalition believes that high quality STEM education for our nation’s current and future STEM leaders is critical to the United States remaining a global economic and technological leader. The STEM Education Coalition meets with Congress, the Executive branch, and various involved federal agencies to educate and advocate for STEM education. The ASA, CSSA, and SSSA Science Policy Office works along side the STEM Education Coalition to support its mission and goals of increased support for STEM education and basic research. • Energy Sciences Coalition - a broad-based coalition of organizations representing scientists, engineers and mathematicians in universities, industry and national laboratories who are committed to supporting and advancing the scientific research programs of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), and in particular, the DOE Office of Science (DOE OS).
