Agriculture and Rural Development in India Since 1947 book outlines progress in Indian agriculture and change of rural India during the post-Independence period. It gives details of the main transformation measures undertaken for the reconstruction of agriculture sector and elevation of living standards of the rural people.
The introductory chapter discusses agriculture development in India and the role of agriculture in Indian economy, as well as some other important aspects such as: national rehabilitation and resettlement policy and integrated pest management, and new agricultural technology.
The book contains six parts. Part I includes 15 chapters presenting detailed explanations of the various features of agricultural development in India since Independence in 1947. Part II contains 11 chapters which discusses rural development in India in terms of different programs/schemes to improve the quality of life of the rural people. Part III presents year-wise review of agricultural developments in India, during the period 1947-48 to 2008-09. Part IV contains appendices that provide related material on different features of Indian agriculture and rural progress. Part V contains glossary of agricultural terminologies. Part VI contains time-series data (1950-51 to 2007-08) on Indian agriculture. Each chapter ends with a comprehensive concluding remarks and observations summarizing the whole chapter.
Agriculture and Rural Development in India Since 1947 book is written by Dr. Chandra Shekhar Prasad who is a distinguished member of Indian Economic Service (IES). After retirement he worked as a consultant to the Government of Mauritius. He has authored three books and written over a hundred articles in reputed journals and economic dailies. Currently, he is Consultant with the National Commission for Enterprises in the Unorganized Sector (NCEUS)), New Delhi, constituted by the Government of India.
The book can be widely used by the academic and research communities as well as by those who are interested in "Green Revolution" and agricultural development in India as a case study that can be employed in other developing countries, especially in the agricultural development sector.
